Rotherham United Nostalgia Society

Rotherham United Nostalgia Society welcome former striker Carl Gilbert as their guest speaker at their next meeting on Thursday 11th October.

Carl is travelling all the way up from Folkstone for the meeting and will also make his first visit to the New York Stadium on Saturday to see the Millers take on Southend.

Carl will perhaps best be remembered by Millers fans for scoring four goals against Swansea City at Millmoor in the 1971/2 season, a season when he went on to net twenty-seven league and cup goals.

In the 1972/3 season Carl actually got to play in goal! It was against Bournemouth, again at Millmoor, when he put the Millers in front but took over the 'keeper`s jersey when Seamus McDonagh was knocked unconscious. The Millers went three-one down and Carl took over his usual roll of forward again and although he did get another goal the Millers went on to lose seven-two!

So all of you who remember singing Carl's name in the seventies at Millmoor get along and see him!

Also popping along tomorrow evening will be former Miller Trevor Womble.

The meeting is at The Green Dragon, Kimberworth and begins at 8.30pm.

Entry is free and all welcome.

Sadly I've just learned that Carl's disabled son has been taken into hospital and he now won't be able to attend - he sends his apologies and has asked to come at a later date. All at Vital Rotherham send our best wishes to Carl and his family. Hopefully Trevor Womble will step in.
