RUFC - Millers Want Tidy Stadium

Rotherham United have answered the fans who became irritated on Tuesday night after being asked to move from a 'sterile` area of the ground.

I was in the Ben Bennett stand and about twenty minutes in we became aware of 'something happening` in the far corner next to the Recycling 'Kop` Stand. We became aware of a confrontation between a number of stewards and thirty or so fans but have only learnt today that the stewards were asking the fans to move so that the 'stadium looked tidy`.

What`s all that about? I wasn't aware that football grounds had to look neat and tidy (if so they've definitely never heard of it in the likes of York and Exeter!)

Admittedly, the fans involved hadn't got tickets for the corner of the ground as none were sold with Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas explaining to Les Payne of The Star, 'We have had issues with fans migrating from the North End into the Main and Family Stands and, as this corner of the ground is designated a sterile area the stewards were obliged to move the fans to the seats their tickets were for.

'We want people to enjoy their visit and will look into this. If there`s demand for this corner area of the ground then we`ll ticket it and possibly steward it differently. We don`t want confrontation.`

OK, maybe the fans shouldn't have gone and sat there but, to be honest, there was plenty of room and you know what it`s like when you meet up with friends but they haven`t a ticket near you and you want to sit and chat while the game is on. But, maybe if the club don`t want people to wander over there they should put a net over the seats.

Hi and thanks for posting this. I was one of the fans in the corner of the ground and me and my father were asked to move along with around 30 others. The reason we were sitting there is because I have a season ticket in the main stand and my father just buys tickets for the games he wants to see. Because there's no way we'd get seats together we both sit in the corner of the ground where there are plenty of seats to choose from. The so called 'Sterile' area. We have been doing this from the very first league game at the NYS and we've never had a problem before. When we asked the stewards why they wanted us to move they told us that the stadium manager wanted that corner of the ground to look the same as the other corner of the ground, which was 'almost' empty but not quite. He wanted the ground to look tidy. Then after a 10 minute dispute they went away and came back and gave us another reason. They wanted everyone to sit in the seat they were allocated on the ticket. When I asked if they were going to go and check that everyone in the ground was sitting in the correct seat, they said no. When I asked if we were causing any problems by sitting in the corner they said no. When I asked what would happen if we declined, they told us we would be ejected from the ground! After building a magnificent stadium and appealing to fans for their attendance and their support this is certainly not how I expected to be treated after supporting them all my life. They have now lost my father as a supporter and I don't think he'll return. I've decided to carry on watching as I don't want to let one stupid, badly handled decision from a faceless stadium manager to stand in the way of me watching the team I love. Well done Rotherham. A really muddled-up, ill advised, confused, upsetting approach to dealing with supporters who at the end of the day were causing no harm and were not sitting in anyone else's seat. I've found this whole episode very upsetting and irritating and I've lost my football watching partner. Lessons should be learned from this, but will they? Who knows, but I doubt it. Millers Suffer Five-Nil Loss

Rotherham United are still looking for their first win on the road after getting a five-nil drubbing this afternoon in South Wales by Cardiff City.

After a scrappy opening to the game the first action of the half on eleven minutes saw the hosts take the lead when Millers' 'keeper Richard O'Donnell could do nothing to stop a superb curling shot by Kadeem Harris hit the back of the net. Minutes later a ball into the box found Sean Morrison but as he rose to head the ball he clattered into O
