'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Boss 'We Had A Real Shift From All Today'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said his teams performance was outstanding this afternoon as he sees the Millers go into the second round draw for the FA Cup.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after beating League One side Stevenage three-two at the New York Stadium, the Millers Boss said, 'If anyone thinks that there was just a one goal difference between the teams today then they are on Planet Zog!

'Of course, when it goes three-two they are going to throw men forward and throw balls into the box and I think we defended, mostly, very well. There goalkeepers had a save of the season here from a Michael O'Connor free-kick.

'We dominated the first half. We got the goal but should have been three or four up. They had a good effort that they should have scored but Andy Warrington blocked it. But I think a comfortable scoreline at half-time would have been four-one. We went three up and looked like we could have gone five up then their fellow has a tremendous strike and what a goal. But, in all honesty, a little more care in the final third and we could have won it five-two. But this is a good side we`ve beaten today but we aren't getting carried away.

'I think that save from Woggy at the start of the game was most important. He`s come in and grabbed the opportunity and I've said to him, long may it continue. I keep telling him every day that I`m looking at goalkeepers and he keeps laughing. He`s such a good professional.

'But, as much as we talk about Woggy`s save their defending off the line in the first half was heroic. They had three off the line that our lads were saying at half-time how did they stay out and, even the referee, as impartial as they are, said if you hadn't won that cup tie it would have been a robbery.

'I want to give the officials praise today because I thought Eddie Ilderton was as good as an official as we`ve had and I thought he had a good game. It looked for ten minutes like we didn't get the rub of the green but I`m trying to look neutrally at these things.

'I think we`ve had a real shift from every one of our players today.`

Asked who he`d like in the next round, Steve said he had no preference. 'I think we`d like to be at the New York Stadium and I think the supporters who didn't come today will want to come to the next one.`

I actually thought the officials made some poor decisions today. Lots of free-kicks weren't given and Boro's number 4 and 10 were climbing all over our players.
