RUFC - Evans On The 'One That Got Away'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans had a wry smile when as he watched his 'other` team, Celtic, beat Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Being a boyhood fan of the Bhoys he could only be delighted that they beat arguably the best side in Europe but must have sighed when he saw it was Tony Watt who`d got the winner.

The eighteen year old had been a subject of a £250,000 bid by the Millers which nearly went through before Celtic Manager Neil Lennon had a change of heart.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser the Millers Boss said, 'Our Chief Scout watched Tony in three U18 games last season and I saw him score twice against Motherwell.

'We offered to buy him or take him on loan because we felt we could aid his development which Neil Lennon was happy with. But then he missed out on a target of his own and opted to keep the lad and I respected that decision.

'Now he`s gone and scored the winner against Barcelona in the Champions League so I suppose we won`t be signing him!`
