RUFC - Club To Speak To Authorities Over Challenge

Rotherham United are considering speaking to the Football authorities regarding what Millers Manager Steve Evans called a 'nasty and vindictive challenge' on skipper Ian Sharps.

The game wasn't twenty minutes old when former Millers Deon Burton and Sharps came together for a ball with the thirty-two year old falling to the ground with a broken nose.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, and insisting that the Gillingham striker should have been seen a red card, Evans said, 'Ian Sharps had his nose smashed with an elbow and we will speak to the League and the FA about it. When we spoke to the referee about it he said it was no worse than a yellow but he took no action at all.'

Evans wasn't impressed with what he called 'theatrics' during the game either saying, 'If that was us I`d be in the stands for the second half and my players would be off the pitch.'

Although I admit from where I was sat I couldn't really see the incident I do know that Ian Sharps doesn't go down for nothing and straight away Millers fans in the stand near the incident were up on their feet with Steve Evans complaining to the fourth official. If Burton had been red, or even yellow, carded then it would have changed the game I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I know, after the game, Steve Evans said it's about time 'someone' looked at the officials we are getting lately and I can't argue with him. We don't seem to have been getting any fifty-fifty decisions for some time now - it's as though the officials have something against us.
