RUFC - County Reaction To Postponed Game

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said that the referee was right to call off the game at Meadow Lane last night due to a frozen pitch because of player safety.

And yes, I think most of us would agree that was the right decision but many Millers fans are annoyed at how late the decision was actually taken - many of who were actually in Nottingham at 6.15 pm when the game was postponed.

Speaking after the postponement, County`s Stadium Manager Greg Smith told Magpie Player, 'We had the cover on up until dinner time. We then took it off and marked out and at four o`clock we thought we had a game.

'The referee came in at five o`clock and he was happy with what we`d done and the forecast but he then veered on the health and safety side.

'I`m gutted. I wanted us to play tonight. We tried our best and I apologise to everybody.`

County Manager Keith Curle said he was desperately disappointed the game couldn't go ahead.

'I was five minutes away from the ground when I got a 'phone call to say the referee had got some concerns.

'I was desperate to play but you have to take on board the referee`s decision when he`s called the game off because of the safety of the players. It`s a very small area that we always have problems with, the rest of the pitch is fine.`
