'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'Other Teams Are Jealous Of Us'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has told his players that they've got to 'rise to the challenge` when playing at the New York Stadium.

After a good pre-season at the new stadium the Millers haven`t exactly lived up to expectations at home having won just over half of the games played there since August, the last one being in November against Cheltenham.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser and saying that other teams in the league are 'jealous` of the Millers, Steve Evans said, 'We`ve got a fantastic stadium, great support and we take good numbers away with us who really back us and with the comes envy. There is jealousy within the game towards Rotherham and everyone wants to beat us. Other teams don`t celebrate in the same way as they do when they defeat us.

It`s something the club hasn't had before and we have to deal with that and have a siege mentality.`

Rotherham are fifth in League Two going into tomorrow`s game against AFC Wimbledon, just four points behind Cheltenham in third place and ten points behind Gillingham at the top, who beat the Millers last weekend at New York and celebrated like they`d won the League and Cup double.

Going to every home game so far and most away games I have to say I`m a little surprised about the atmosphere at the NYS. I thought it would be rocking but somehow the noise seems to drift away a little - and we sound better and louder away from home. Although, on Saturday, when all three stands of Millers were singing as one the noise was brilliant.
