RUFC - Raynor Pleased With Reserve Performance

Rotherham United Reserves beat Stoke City Reserves this afternoon at Parkgate by three goals to one with the Millers goals coming Kayode Odejayi (two) and Gareth Evans.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the win Assistant Manager Paul Raynor said he was particularly pleased with the first forty-five minutes.

'To go three-nil up against a Premier League team was pleasing. We dropped a little notch in the second half and there was always going to be a reaction from Stoke but, on the whole, it was a three-one victory and a valuable game for the senior players and good experience for the younger players.

'I was really pleased with Kay today (Kayode Odejayi). He showed real energy and he's shown he's got a real spark and a real hunger and if he plays like that he's going to be a real asset for us.'

Asked about Saturday's goalscorer Kieran Agard playing in a central-midfield role, Raynes said, 'He can play there in an emergency and he's played there in the reserves before. He's an honest lad, he gets about the pitch and gives you what he's got and he'll benefit from playing today. But it was really just to get as many of the senior players out on the field as possible.

'Nicky Walker is growing in confidence. He's got bags of ability and the Gaffer has faith in him. He is a talent and he does special things on the ball but we aren't getting too carried away because he's still got a lot to learn.'

Dale Tonge started today's game and Paul said that he came through it OK.
