RUFC - Club To File Complaint

Rotherham United are to file a complaint over how Bristol Rovers handled today's postponement.

The match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch but lack of communication has left the club and fans fuming.

An official statement on the Rotherham United Official Site reads - The club is disappointed that we were not kept informed as to the situation at Bristol Rovers this morning. Whilst we fully appreciate the weather has got the better of things, we believe had communication been better, supporters could have been better informed so as to not make the journey.

As one of those travelling supporters I really do think we have a right to have a moan about this decision.

We were told yesterday at around 4pm that there wasn't a problem with the pitch and that they had a 'good drainage system' in place. Looking at the weather forecast I think a few of us were a bit dubious - as it wasn't the first time we'd been told 'all was fine' and that 'we have a good drainage system' (Accrington comes to mind).

We set off with the weather a little inclement shall we say - and it did rain but the nearer we got to Bristol the less the rain. Someone on the coach phoned Bristol at around 11am and we were once again told that the pitch was fine and there was no inspection planned. We were just pulling into the services on the M5 (Strensham) and I had a text message to say 'might be pitch inspection' followed by another 'pitch inspection'. I 'phoned Bristol straight away - this was around 1145 and got through a few minutes later to be told that the game had just been called off.

Now, I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that the state of the pitch had changed in less than forty-five minutes! I have since seen photo's of the pitch and I think they need to re-think their drainage system.

I'm not arguing that the game should have gone ahead because looking at photo's of the pitch it shouldn't - but a bit of thought should go out to the travelling fans, you know, the people who keep the clubs going. I know to three full coaches going down and lots of people travelling by car and train - surely a bit of common sense and a look at the local weather station should happen.

That's £40 we've spent on wasted journeys this season - and the really bad weather hasn't set in yet! It's really not fair and I feel like stamping my feet and having a paddy!

Oh, and can I apologise to the lady at the Memorial Stadium who got a rant from some of our fans followed by a rendering of '*u**ing useless' - it wasn't her fault but I think tempers were a bit high at the time.
