'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'We Deserved The Win'

Rotherham United`s win at Rochdale this afternoon sent them into third place in League Two with the Millers Boss saying it was a thoroughly deserved three points.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-one win at Rochdale, Manager Steve Evans said, 'I think we were very unfortunate to go behind and I told the boys at half-time I was disappointed with the goal we conceded. But, we also said that we believed in them and with credit to the boys there`s not a lot of clubs who locked their players away last night but they got their just rewards today.

'This squad has great character but we don`t kid ourselves, this was a real tough place to come and we got a thoroughly deserved three points. It came late but we had to work extremely hard for it.

'I think I you look at the skies when you go one down with their first chance of the game. But, from the first second of the second half we had almost total domination.`

Asked what it felt like being in the promotion places after the first game of the New Year, Steve said, 'To be honest we were disappointed that we weren't there before going into the Christmas period. We lost on Boxing Day to Port Vale which we`d done enough not to lose.

' I've told the boys that for the next few home games we`re going to go on a coach the day before and go to a hotel then drive in on the coach so we think it`s an away day! I genuinely believe in March or April we will be strong and that the competition for places will be fierce and supporters and directors will shake their head at selection but I don`t care as long as we win games.`

Steve is hoping that in the next day or two he will get in a wide player who the 'fans will be excited with`.
