'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman 'The NYS Is Like Eiffel Tower'!

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart is asking the fans to keep coming to the New York Stadium to watch the Millers.

Mr Stewart is hoping that the club get promotion, sooner rather than later, and he told David Beddows of The Advertiser, 'We need a team who can hit League One running. We don't want to get there by the skin of our teeth - we want to get there with confidence.

'I like to set objectives and the first is to get into League One. When we get there the next objective will be to reach the Championship. But we will take it stage by stage.'

Speaking about 'his baby' the New York Stadium, Mr Stewart said, 'It is an iconic stadium that welcomes people into Rotherham whether travelling by car or train. As I see it, it is like putting the Eiffel Tower in Rotherham. And, of course, we'd like to fill it every week. We have people coming now who never came to Millmoor or Don Valley as well as a new generation of people who arrive with their families and we need to maintain the interest this year and in the future.

'We've realised the ambition of building the stadium and now the ambition is to match the quality of the stadium with a quality team.'

I've got to say on a Saturday afternoon when there's a game on Rotherham, as a town centre, is buzzing which hasn't happened for many a year - and long may it continue.
