RUFC - Evans Devastated

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans says that individual errors are to blame for the Millers being knocked out of this years FA Cup.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the three-one loss at Aldershot, the Millers Boss said, 'If you make individual errors then you'll get punished. We've got Nardiello who didn't commit himself to a tackle and they go on and score and the second goal is two errors Pringle doesn't track his runner and gives a foul away and they get a free-kick and Bradley gets caught wrong side. But for the first goal was it an error or lack of heart? Nardiello should have scored in the first two minutes and then it would have been a different cup tie.

'I think we dominated the second half. They got a goal that was two yards off-side but there's no accounting for Officials and I'm not blaming the referee but how the assistant referee doesn't see that well he's probably the only one in Hampshire who doesn't. And that goal killed the cup-tie. We were disappointed with the match officials all afternoon and I didn't see any of the fifty-fifty's go to Rotherham United today. But the referee isn't to blame - he didn't jump out of a tackle, he didn't not track a runner, he didn't mark the wrong side.

Asked about the substitutions at half-time (Adam Morgan and Courtney Cameron for Nardiello and Michael O'Connor), Evans said, 'We wanted to bring young Adam and young Courtney on and I think they were arguably our best players in the second half. The goalkeeper has made a great save from Morgan.

'But we get a goal from a penalty and hit the post when we should score and maybe if we had we might still be in the cup. But we're taking nothing away from Aldershot and we wish them every success. I'm devastated but to keep getting success in the FA Cup you need your eleven to play for you with heart, spirit, tenacity and steel and one or two didn't have that today did they are we are out.'

I know Steve Evans was bitterly disappointed with today's result - it showed in his voice - and he says we played a lot better in the second half. Not wanting to tell him his job but perhaps we might do better starting the first half with the same formation as we did the second?
