RUFC - Groundsman Delighted With Pitch

Rotherham United's Player Facilities Manager Dave Fellowes is delighted with the pitch at the New York Stadium and is keeping his fingers crossed that we will get through the season without a postponement.

With the amount of rain we saw in Rotherham before the Port Vale game on Boxing Day it proved the draining system worked with the game going ahead (although there are some who maybe wished it hadn't!) with Dave saying the only thing that should bring a postponement about is a few days of freezing temperatures and concerns for public safety.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, Dave said that the recent mild weather hasn't done the pitch any good and disease had infected certain areas although the air frost over the last couple of days will probably kill the bacteria which would save hundreds of pounds in fungicides.

'The pitch has lost some of it's grass,' Dave said, 'but you expect that at this time of year. In March the grass will start to grow again and by the end of the season it will look like a new pitch.

'The pitch is looking fantastic and I'm really pleased with the way it's playing.'

To me, of an untrained eye, the pitch looks great and is playing really well.
