Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has once again blamed individual errors for the teams poor display this afternoon at the New York Stadium.
Speaking to MillersPlayer after the three-one loss to Bristol Rovers, the Millers Boss said, 'At the end of the day we can`t make the individual errors we did and then expect to get a result. No team at any level can justify those mistakes as individuals and in this league as it has proved with Bristol Rovers, or any team a head start it`s very difficult. We don`t just give a goal to them, we give them three goals. They`re all total individual errors.'
You know, in the past, Evans has come out and said words similar to 'we win together, we lose together.' And lose they did this afternoon - badly. But I really don't see how him blaming individuals is helping.
I'm not saying errors weren't made because they were - after all this is division four football - but shouting and screaming at individual players from the touchline isn't going to help their confidence. And yes, I know this is Steve Evans' way and how he does things, but I think he should take it on the chin when players shout back at him - but that doesn't appear to be happening.
I think today a lot of the problems were caused by the shape we were playing and all the changes in the last couple of games - players don't appear to know where they are playing and where a player should be when the ball is passed.
No, individual errors aren't good - but it happens and I think instead of making a point of blaming those players who make the errors he should stand on the side of the pitch and encourage them to forget it and play on. Or, as he's spoken about these individual errors for weeks now perhaps they should be sorted out on the training pitch.
