RUFC - Reserves Lose To 'Pools

Hartlepool 2 Rotherham 1

A young Rotherham United Reserves side lost two-one against Hartlepool yesterday afternoon at the Ron Grieg Stadium.

Hartlepool were first out of the blocks with Tony Thompson doing well in blustery conditions to save a shot from Lewis Hawkins while Luke James had an opportunity to put the 'Pool ahead and with only the 'keeper to beat put his shot wide. At the other end both Kieran Agard and Daniel Rowe tried long range shots without success. But on the half-hour mark Greg Rutherford found the head of Josh Rowbotham with a beautiful cross and the tall defender headed home from close range.

Two minutes into the second half 'Pool went further into the lead when James slotted the ball under the advancing Thompson and, although a minute later Kieran Agard halved the deficit when he unleashed a shot from twenty-five yards out into the top corner of the net. A few minutes later Agard had another chance but put his shot way too high while Thompson managed to palm away a shot from Nathan Luscombe but only as far as far as Rutherford but the midfielder shot straight into the arms of the Millers 'keeper. At the other end Agard seized on a shot back-pass and he rounded 'keeper Adam McHugh but his shot went across goal and was cleared to safety.
