RUFC - Gaffer Wants To Earn Contract Extension

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has turned down an extension to his contract saying that he needs to prove he`s worth it.

Evans signed a three year deal last April with the Millers but has been under fire from the fans of late although by offering this extension it seems Chairman Tony Stewart has made it clear that he wants to stick with the Scots man.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser the Millers Boss said, 'I met the Chairman on Monday and, knowing how unhappy I've been with the last couple of results, he said if it settled me down he would extend my contract.

'I told him to 'let me earn it`. I want to show the Rotherham United fans I am deserving of that and to be part of a long-term strategy.

'I`m not here to take contract extensions I`m here to deliver success for this club as soon as possible.`

Saying that he is still confident that the team can go up Evans carried on, 'I didn't come here to be a one-season wonder. I came here for a three or four year plan and to take this football club to the Championship. I`m still the person to do that but I need to support of everyone.`

Well it seems he has to support of the Chairman and the board which is really as high as you can get. Has he got the support of the fans? Well, we all know how fickle football fans can be and the message boards and social media sites have been rather scathing of the Gaffer in recent weeks. But, of course, win three on the bounce and he`ll probably be the best thing since sliced bread.
