'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Millers Boss 'Exceptional'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was pleased with his players after they beat Chesterfield at the New York Stadium today.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the one-nil win this afternoon, the Millers Boss said, 'I think Paul Cook will reflect on this today and know that his team have had a one-nil battering today.

'We should have had a clear cut penalty when their player handled, Nardiello hit the post, we`ve had two or three cleared off the line but our players were exceptional today.

'We went out and played with a real energy and a real passion and we`ve had a good, deserved win.

'Today`s performance, in spells, was special today and the quality of the football for League Two doesn't get seen in League Two. But, it`s not over one game, it`s over forty-six and recently we`ve let our Chairman down and we`ve let our fans down but today was important and we got the points.

'It was a great header from Johnny Mullins and I thought he was excellent today as was Claude Davis. But all over the field we were from Kearns on the left with his magic, Frecklington never stopped, Nobel`s creativity, Arnason was immense and I thought my front two caused havoc.`

Admitting that it was a tough decision putting Noble in today, Evans said, 'To be fair there was two or three pressing for a place. Young Courtney Campbell has been excellent and he was excellent for the reserves and his attitude in training has been back to where it was when he first joined us and it`s good that he`s with us until the end of the season.

'It was a big choice for my front two as well today. Should I freshen it up with Jordan Slew and Kayode (Odejayi) or do I leave it with Alex (Revell) and Nardiello? They`ll all chop and change as will the midfield.

'Hand on heart, I`ll tell the Rotherham fans that I`ll pick the best team on paper that I hundred per cent believe in. We all want the same thing and that`s to get promoted. Just stick with us and believe. There will be down days and there will be good days.`
