RUFC - Millers Reserves Held

Rotherham United Reserves 1 Grimsby Town Reserves 1

Rotherham United were held to a one-all draw at Roundwood yesterday afternoon.

After a quiet opening on a very cold afternoon Michael O'Connor had the first shot on goal some twenty-five yards out that was well saved by Town 'keeper Greg Fleming. On twenty minutes it was O'Connor again in the midst of things when his perfect ball found the head of Alec Denton and the young striker, recently back from a loan spell with non-league Stamford, headed the ball into the back of the net. Fifteen minutes later Denton again found himself in space but couldn't beat Fleming.

Just five minutes into the second half saw the Mariners equalise when a good shot from Dayle Southwell levelled the score. Nicky Walker had the chance to put the Millers back in front but shot straight at Fleming while Denton saw a chance go high. Dale Tonge also had a chance but couldn't get his shot on target while, at the other end, Dan Rowe cleared a Southwell header off the goal-line. In the final minute of the game Town got the chance to win it when Southwell was brought down in the area and given a penalty. The striker took the spot-kick himself but Tony Thompson got down and pushed the ball to safety.
