RUFC - Claude 'I Let The Gaffer Down Big Time'

Rotherham United defender Claude Davis probably didn't make the best of his starts in a Rotherham shirt - his first ninety minutes of play resulted in three yellow cards (the first two resulting in a sending off) and giving a penalty away - but, in my eyes, he`s certainly made up for it since.

In the game against Chesterfield he was solid and on Tuesday night at Bristol Rovers he never missed a header all night and was certainly my Man of the Match.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser the former Preston North End centre-back said, 'We went to Bristol knowing that we owed them one and I was under tremendous pressure after the first game which I still blame myself for the loss. If we`d had eleven men on the pitch they wouldn't have beaten us. When I got sent-off I heard someone in the crowd shout 'get back to Crawley` but I always try to take a positive from a negative and use that stuff to drive myself. I've been in the game long enough to know what matters is what happens next because what happened before you can`t do anything about.

'I had a long talk with the gaffer before the game on Tuesday and he reminded me of the game, although he didn't need to because it was in the back of my mind. I let him down big time and the fans were on his back.

'He didn't start me against Burton and we lost and then he came to me and said 'listen, you owe me, repay me now.` He brought me here for a reason and I hope I`m showing why.`

I think a lot of us fans wondered about Davis when he arrived and, as we've said, his debut didn't help him in the least. But I think he arrived when the fans were probably feeling a bit nervous about what was happening and maybe a few took to the message boards/social media sites a bit too early to make a judgement about the Jamaican International. And, I bet, they are now eating their words.
