'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Midfielder Hoping To Keep His Place

Rotherham United midfielder Michael O'Connor made his first start against Southend on Saturday since his sending off against Burton at the beginning of February and said after the game that he felt alright.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the Saturday's draw Micky said, 'It was a tough game and the pitch wasn't really great. I cramped up a bit in the last ten minutes and fell on my arse a bit but it was good to get the draw.

'I thought we played well for the first fifty minutes. I think they were the better team in the second half and scored a good goal but I think it was a point game after being one behind. The last two games we've shown we've got character in this team and you need that to go up in this league.

'We went five in midfield today and we knew the game would be won or lost in there. It was disappointing to go one down but it's a great wonder strike and you can't do anything about that. But we kept going and we got a point out of nothing really but it's disappointing because we came here looking for three points. We'd rather win games but we drew this and it keeps the momentum going.

'It's a big game on Tuesday and it's one of our games in hand but we've got to take every game as it comes because it's going to be tight this year and we need to stick together. It's in our hands now and if we win every game we'll go up.

'This is the business end of the season and I want to get back into the team and stay there but it's going to be hard because there's some quality players in this team.'

I thought the midfield did very well on Saturday and won most balls in there.
