RUFC - Evans 'Performance Not Acceptable'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans is blaming individual errors on his side losing three-nil to Cheltenham Town this afternoon.

Speaking after the game at Whaddon Road, the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, 'We`ve not turned up.

'I think every one of their goals was caused by individual errors and when you make individual errors you are going to concede goals. You can`t allow the cross to come in for the first goal although it was a special finish and you can`t go anything about that. The second goal the midfield player runs off one of our lads and the third goal I think the whole ground can see what happened.

'I thought we had a lot of possession in the first half but did nothing with it but we`ve not played well as a team today. But, at the end of the day, it`s all about goals and when we analyse them individuals have let us down today. But the performance today from start to finish was not acceptable.

'I think we over played today on a pitch that isn't good for football at this level, though that isn't an excuse. I can`t remember a stage in the game where the goalkeeper has had to make a proper save which tells you we`ve been poor. We were trying to play five a-side and we didn't put balls into the box.

'We`ve been pleased with our performances lately but we`ve got to take this blow and go back onto the training ground on Monday and work hard and prepare for next week.`

Evans didn't say 'yea or nay` when asked if he would be looking into the loan market this week but I rather suspect he will be. It was a dire performance today and maybe it was individual errors that gave the goals away but we looked really out of sorts, tired even bemused at times this afternoon and unfit, which is a bit surprising to me. Cheltenham wanted it more than us and we stood back and let them have it. I`m afraid to say to those who didn't go that there wasn`t one Millers player out there today who gave their all, not one hundred per cent showing. Why? Answers on a postcard please….
