RUFC - Frecks On His Penalty Last Night

Rotherham United midfielder Lee Frecklington scored the opening goal in last night's win over Bradford City from the penalty spot.

When asked after the two-nil win what was going through his mind as he stepped up to take the kick that he knew could take the Millers into third place in the League, the twenty-seven year old told Radio Sheffield, 'I just tried not to think about it.

'I knew it was important because we needed the win but I think if you start to think about it too much you put more pressure on yourself so in my own head I just did what I needed to do.

'We knew that tonight was a massive game and those fans were brilliant tonight. The gaffer's been on about our game in hand and ifs and buts if we won and tonight we've come here and it is our game in hand and we've got the three points and it's pushed us up into third spot. Physiologically this has given us a lot of confidence going into the Plymouth game and our fate is in our own hands now.

'The game itself was ugly and me and Arni (Kari Arnason) have said it's probably one of the worst games of football I've ever played in but we for the sake of the team and what was at stake we knew we just had to work hard and at this stage of the season it's all about the results. We'd love to have played pretty and win here but they made it difficult and the surface wasn't ideal for playing football on so we just had to grind it out and all that matters is we got the win.'

Saying he's nearly back to one hundred per cent after losing nearly five kilograms (almost a stone to us who still use old money) the former Peterborough player said he was surprised how hard the virus he's had hit him, 'I didn't get out of bed for a week and didn't eat for that time either and I've still not put my weight back on. These last two games have gone a long way to me getting my fitness back. The virus hit me really hard and I was surprised how bad I was. I was really tired after Saturday's game but I feel alright tonight.'

Frecks had a good game I thought last night - but then again, he always does.
