Low Crowds....

Today the millers chairman is quoted in the Rotherham Advertiser as being concerned about the low crowds for recent games. His quote is that 'the club is bending over backwards to get people through the turnstyles but to no avail'.

In recent games especially midweek ones the club has failed to attract a gate of 4,000 even though the game against Norwich was reduced prices. The only exception to this was the recent game against our neighbours Doncaster Rovers which attracted a gate of 6,000+.

The main two problems which are in my opinion causing this are the hike in season ticket prices and our local clubs all having successful seasons last year.

I do believe the club is going about attracting new supporters in the right manner by going into local schools and giving away free tickets as then if they like what they see they will ask there parents to bring them again and so get hooked.

All in all i think the club is heading in the right direction and with a bit of luck on the field then i am sure the crowds would come back, but what do you think?

one of the reasons will probably be financial. 5 home games this month including 3 in 7 days. obviously id spend my last penny to get to games, but for people with kids its a dear month.

Agree about the financial aspect for supporters. We,ve both got season tickets but if it was pay on the day for us,no way could we afford to go to them all.

I do think they are trying to get youngsters involved with the free tickets. I also think the players should be going round the schools introducing themselves and Rotherham United to (hopefully) prospective fans.

Can you not put these ideas to D and D?
rybel_b
I think the players do go out to schools and events

personally, i think you're doing well (league wise) considering you were 10 points down, so if when/if you get out of relegation, i think the attendences will rise again but anyway, good luck!!!

The crowds are crap because they're all supporting the big club down the road in Hillsborough. 'Rotherham Owl For Life'

And, as if by magic, there are photo's on the Official Site (www.themillers.co.uk) of two of our players visiting a local Junior School.

bigest reason for low crowds is the big hike in the season ticket prices but d&d knew better not
