RUFC - Chairman Happy Way Things Are

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart says there is no rush to extend the present contract of Manager Steve Evans.

Although stating on local radio less than a month ago that, if promoted, he would talk to Evans about extending his contract, Mr Stewart has told David Beddows of The Advertiser that the Manager has two years left on his contract and is happy with that.

The Manager was getting a bit of stick when things weren't going so well and admitted himself that he was feeling low and Mr Stewart, it seems around January time, then offered him an extension to his contract which he turned down and then last month the Chairman said in an interview that 'Steve has told me he wants to be here for the next ten years.` Let`s be honest here, as football fans, it would be great to think that we could keep a manager for that length of time because that must mean he was doing something right!

Saying that they he and Evans are quite relaxed when talking about new contracts, Mr Stewart carried on, 'all I know is, whether it is extending his contract or whatever, that will come naturally.`

Mr Stewart again made the point that Steve Evans and he have great communication and speak every day the Chairman said, 'He has got thrust and drive and he has delivered the goods in his first season.`
