RUFC - Message To Coventry City Fans From A Miller

Rotherham United fans will have some empathy with Coventry City fans as their club have hinted that they might move out of the City.

The Millers were 'forced' to move out of Millmoor and moved to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield for the start of the 2008/9 season which didn't impress many of the clubs supporters. The Millers also had to give up their training ground and moved to Doncaster to use one of the pitches at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Sisu the owners of Coventry City and Arena Coventry Limited (ACL), who runs the city's Ricoh Arena which has been the home of the Sky Blues for eight years, are embroiled in a row over unpaid rent and plans have been drawn up by the club to build a new ground which would mean them moving to a temporary ground possibly outside the city.

The fans aren't at all impressed about this with one supporter saying it wasn't fair that fans had to incur extra cost for travelling out of the city to see 'home' games and fans have even suggested that it could 'kill the club altogether'.

Well, it probably won't help Coventry supporters when, as a Miller, I say 'been there, done that, got the T-shirt', but it's true.

We gave all those excuses and more when we were dragged away from Rotherham and yes, after the initial first few weeks when the novelty had worn off, attendances did drop. Luckily we had a Chairman in Tony Stewart who dug deep in his pocket and helped us through that time (which, if we are being truthful, we have now wiped out of our memories!)

But look at us now - new ground, good crowds and a team that got promoted.

So, my message to the Coventry City fans is don't despair. If you have to move out of your city, I won't pretend it won't make a difference, but you can survive - we did.

There was a meeting yesterday between the administrators and the creditors that didn't find an answer to the problem and they adjourned for two weeks to meet up again on 12th June.

Great article Herringthorpe - we're only missing the generous chairman part of the equation!
