RUFC - Pen Pic - Michael O'Connor

Michael O'Connor

Belfast born Michael began his career with Crewe Alexandra and was a prominent member of their Youth side before signing a three year professional contract in the summer of 2005. While with the Alex he had a loan spell with Lincoln City before he signed for Scunthorpe United in July 2009 being released three years later.

Michael signed a two-year contract with the Millers in May last year becoming Steve Evans' sixth signing of the summer and made his debut in the first league game of the season against Burton Albion at the New York Stadium.

On joining the Millers the Irish International said he had only spoken to Steve Evans for a few minutes before he knew that the 'club was going places'.

Michael has scored six goals this season in the forty games he appeared in but saw red in the two-nil loss to Burton at the Pirelli Stadium in February after Maghoma appeared to roll over in the penalty area then try and toe poke the ball towards goal with O'Connor's momentum taking him into the player and resulting in a straight red.

Michael has ten caps for Northern Ireland.

Michael has been a big strength in midfield this season and has been Vital Rotherham's Man of the Match on a few occasions and was just pipped to the Player of the Season by Alex Revell.
