'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - On This Day - 16 June

A look back at the past on this day .

16th June 2011

On this day two years ago we found out that our first opponents in the Carling Cup would see Leicester City travelling to Don Valley.

Also on this day we were told by the club that they were 'on track` to owning their own training ground but were keeping their options as to where that would exactly be.

16th June 2010

On this day we found out that the Millers would be travelling to London Road to take on Peterborough in the Carling Cup.

We also found out that Ryan Cresswell had signed for the Millers from Bury for an undisclosed fee.

Millers Boss Ronnie Moore was talking about an attempt to bring in defender Matthew Lowton from Sheffield United who he said was a player he 'greatly admired`.

Meanwhile defender Dale Tonge was optimistic that is foot injury would have healed in time for him to be fit for the coming season.

16th June 2008

The fixtures came out on this day five years ago and we found out that our first game at Don Valley Stadium would be on the opening day of the season against Lincoln City.

We also found out that we would be using the Keepmoat Stadium`s training facilities for the coming season.

16th June 2007

Six years ago there was a karaoke night at the Rotherham United Suite (the old Tivoli). I don`t think there were any takers from Vital!

16th June 1982

The 1982 World Cup was on the way in Spain and it was on this day that England beat France 3-1 in a Group Four game. Bryan Robson opened the scoring in the first minute of the game only for Gerard Soler to equalise twenty-three minutes later. On sixty-seven minutes Robson struck again to make it two-one with Paul Mariner making sure seven minutes from time. The only caution of the game at the San Mames Stadium went to England captain Terry Butcher.
