RUFC - Millers Draw Owls

Rotherham United have drawn Sheffield Wednesday at the New York Stadium in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The game will take place the week commencing 5th August.

Last season began with this fixture and the Millers travelled to Humberside (still East Yorkshire to some of us!) to the KC Stadium to take on Championship side Hull City. Lionel Ainsworth sent the visiting fans into raptures when he opened the scoring on fifty-two minutes but eighteen minutes later Aaron McLean equalised for the Tigers from close range. Extra time couldn't split the sides so it was on to the dreaded penalties which City won seven-six.

The first round of the season before was also the last Carling Cup game at Don Valley when Leicester City beat the Millers four-one which was the same score as the year before when the Millers travelled to London Road to take on Peterborough United.

The last time the Millers got through to the second round of this cup was in August 2009. Derby County were the visitors at Don Valley and Gary Teale gave the visitors the lead on eleven minutes. A minutes before half-time Paul Warne made it one-one with Kevin Ellison getting the winning goal for the Millers on sixty-five minutes.
