'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Club Aim To Interact More With Fans

Rotherham United`s Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas says the club are trying to make coming to the New York Stadium a pleasant experience.

Speaking to The Star Mr Douglas said that the club has taken on board the few problems that have been brought forward including the catering, the kiosks and also the sound system that is still a bit iffy in certain parts of the ground.

'Next season will see a big improvement in the way that we interact with our supporters in a bid to engender a stronger bond with them,` Mr Douglas promised.

One of the things on the agenda is the way the club deal with the supporters with a small number of fans having been spoken too about 'unacceptable` behaviour and have been put under a threat of a ban from the ground.

'We take our responsibility to supporters seriously and we have won the Family Excellence Award from the Football League which is something we are extremely proud of,` said Mr Douglas.

Football is emotional, I don`t think many of us would disagree with that - it makes you happy, it makes you angry and some of us take our frustrations out in ways that does offend others. There are some things that upsets one person that another can overlook - for instance bad language doesn`t particularly bother me, although it`s something I can`t condone when youngsters are around, but other people are offended by it. And why should those people, who are there for an enjoyable day out, have to put up with something that upsets them? (Mind you watching Rotherham, at times, is enough to make anyone swear!) Sitting in the family stand I have to say I`ve not heard that much bad language - and I have started to hold my breath in frustration and count to ten!
