'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans Happy With Eaves

Rotherham United gave a debut to striker Tom Eaves who joined the Millers from Bolton Wanderers on loan this week.

The twenty-one year old came off the bench for Kieran Agard for the last twenty minutes of the game at Walsall and seemed quite lively.

'He's a handful isn't he,' Steve Evans said, 'I wouldn't want to play against him, in fact, I don't think I'd want my team to play against him. He'll compliment what we've got very well.'

Richard Brindley started the game brightly was the subject of a bit of a fierce challenge early in the game and was subbed before the half-hour mark. 'He felt ill,' his Manager said. 'He was giving them a problem on the right-hand side but he came across and said he wasn't feeling the best and was feeling dizzy. So we put Mark Bradley on and I thought he did well.'

Asked again about Ryan Hall, who joined Sheffield United yesterday, Steve Evans told Radio Sheffield, 'I'll put it on the record, we tried to sign Ryan Hall three weeks ago. He said he had a Championship club after him then his agent 'phoned again last week and we said 'no'.

'We will try and do some football business in the week ahead and strengthen the squad because, as we've seen today, this is a tough, tough league, but we'll do it properly. We've got our players focussed and they are giving one hundred per cent in every game. The competition to be in the team is good and I just want one or two positions where competition will get tougher.'
