Vital Rotherham are looking back on this day in the past
2nd October 2012
This time last year a lot of fans made the shortish journey to the Crown Ground to take on Accrington Stanley. The Millers fans got to the ground in pouring rain and immediately questioned nearby stewards about the state of the pitch. 'It's fine,' we were told, 'we've got a new drainage system you know.'
Well this draining system appeared to be draining straight into the away end of the ground and it soon became clear that no way was this game going to go ahead. Our team came out for pre-game warm-up and were shaking their heads. The referee, Chris Sarginson, came out and attempted to bounce a football on the pitch (and give him his due he tried for a good five minutes before he realised the ball wasn't bouncing back into his hands!) and just a few minutes before the kick-off called the game off.
Unhappy fans and unhappy players. Millers Assistant Manager (who was in charge as Steve Evans was under a stadium ban) was unhappy too saying 'We were high on confidence and desperate to play and we are very disappointed.'
2nd October 2011
Two years ago the Millers were getting over a two-nil loss to Port Vale and Vale Manager, Micky Adams, said that it was a welcome three points from a tough game.
2nd October 2010
On this day in 2010 the Millers came back from Gigg Lane with a point after a one-all draw. Ryan Lowe put the home side in front four minutes before half-time but six minutes into the second half Adam Le Fondre got the equaliser.
After the game Millers Manager Ronnie Moore said he thought it was a good point. 'Gifting them the goal like we did was disappointing but we showed enough spirit to come back. A draw was probably the right result.'
2nd October 2008
Five years ago 'sources in the North-East' were saying that the Millers had put in a bid for former striker Richie Barker.
2nd October 2007
Rotherham United drew away at Moss Rose with Macclesfield Town on this day in 2007. Derek Holmes had opened the scoring for Rotherham but just over the hour mark Martin Gritton got the equaliser for the home side.

Referee Kevin Wright showed yellow cards to Paul Hurst, Shaun Barker and Robbie Stockdale.
2nd October 1999

2nd October 1993
Twenty years ago the Millers travelled to the seaside in the Division Two encounter against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. Goals from Mark Bonner and Andy Watson gave the Seasiders a win.
2nd October 1990
Another loss for the Millers on this day this time at Blundell Park. A goal from Mark Dempsey wasn't enough with Grimsby scoring two goals on the evening.
2nd October 1984
A goal from Alan Birch away at Bristol City was enough to give the Millers the win at Ashton Gate.
2nd October 1982
Although Joe McBride scored a goal for the Millers it was Newcastle who came out five-one winners at Millmoor.
2nd October 1979
Rotherham United entertained Carlisle United at Millmoor on this Tuesday evening in the Old Division Three. The Millers won the game four-one with Rod Fern scoring two goals and Richard Finney and Dave Gwyther getting one each.
2nd October 1976
Another win for the Millers on this day back in 1976. Grimsby were the visitors to Millmoor and the game ended three-two with the home goals coming from Alan Crawford, Dave Gwyther and Trevor Phillips on the Saturday afternoon.
2nd October 1971
A goal from Dennis Leigh was enough to give the Millers a draw over York City at Millmoor.
2nd October 1965
A bad day at the office for the Millers when they travelled to take on Bury on this day in 1965 with the Shakers winning six-one. Frank Casper scored the Millers goal.
2nd October 1954
The Millers won away at Hull City in the Old Division Two on this day fifty-nine years ago. Cyril Bunclark scored on his debut with John Henderson getting the other goal.
2nd October 1948
Goals from Wally Ardron and Jack Grainger were enough to give the Millers a two-one win away at Bradford.
2nd October 1943
Wally Ardron was on hand to get two goals in a three-two loss at Millmoor to neighbours Sheffield United in the Northern Regional League.
2nd October 1937

2nd October 1926
Rotherham travelled to Northumberland to take on Ashington on this day in 1926. The game saw eight goals - four for each side, with the Millers goals coming from Joe Scott (3) and Ernie Higginbotham.
2nd October 1920
It has been recorded that sixteen thousand fans crammed into Millmoor on this day in 1920. The Millers were the winners in a game that saw nine goals against South Shields. Joe Lees (2), Billy Clarkson, Sandy Glennon and Harry Millership were the Millers scorers giving them a five-four win.
