RUFC - Evans 'We're Not A Dirty Team'

RUFC - Evans 'We're Not A Dirty Team'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans wasn't impressed with the bookings that Referee Darren Drysdale handed out to the Millers players on Tuesday night at Hartlepool.

Six Rotherham players were booked on the night - five for fouls and one for dissent (kicking the ball away) - while 'Pools had one player booked.

'Was there a bad challenge in the game? Probably two or three,' the Millers Boss said to The Advertiser, 'but not enough to warrant six yellow cards. We're not a dirty team, we're a passing team.

'When the referee looks back at some of the yellows he'll probably think he put a few players on a knife edge. Maybe he could have had a bit more patience and understanding with it being a cup tie.'

Can't agree with the Gaffer more - we aren't a dirty team but all these yellow cards are making it appear that we are. I do wonder if referees look at the yellow cards we've had at games before they are in charge of us and think 'first foul a Millers player does and I'll book him to make them know who's boss' sort of thing.

Also, when Daniel Nardiello was booked - and I actually did think that was a yellow card - it was his first foul yet Mr Drysdale seemed to point to two other areas of the pitch as though saying he'd let him off with two other challenges. But Nards had only just come on the pitch! I did wonder, at the time, if it could be mistaken identity due to the grey shirts - which I still have difficulty distinguishing between players during night games.

It was a miracle you lot ended up with eleven men on the pitch! Awful, bullying team who I expected little else from. With a manager like Evans this is the way you are going to play.
