RUFC - Reserves Beaten By Owls

Rotherham Reserves 2 Sheffield Wednesday Reserves 4

Rotherham United Reserves lost their first home league game this afternoon against neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a young side that turned out with the Millers apart from long term injury victim David Worrall who started his first competitive game since the first month of the season.

The game began quietly with the Millers having two shots from Nicky Walker and Ally Watson that didn't bother Owls 'keeper Cameron Dawson. The first shot on target came from the visitors just after ten minutes when Paul Corry saw his shot go just wide of the post. Ten minutes later David Worrall's header found Ayrton Bevins but the striker shot over the bar from eighteen yards out. It was a defensive mistake that led to the opening goal and with Millers 'keeper Charlie Bryan only being able to parry the ball away it fell to Andelko Savic who slipped the ball over the line. Both Watson and Bevins had chances but the first one when wide and the second over the crossbar. Then just before half-time Jermaine Johnson put in a lovely ball for Freddie Tracey who doubled the Owls lead from six yards out.

The Millers were brighter at the start of the second half and only a good save from Dawson stopped Bevins pulling one back for the home side and not long afterwards a Nicky Walker free-kick was well held by the Owls goalkeeper. A little against play the Owls then went three up with Ayo Oblieye heading the ball into the net. The Millers responded straight away when a terrific pass from Mike Williamson found Reece Lucas who put the ball beyond Dawson to make it three-one. Unfortunately the Owls made it four-one after a good save from Bryan fell to Tracey and he put the ball into the net. The Millers did score again in the final minutes of the game when a shot from Jerry Yates, on for Walker, was deflected into the corner of the net.
