'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'We Were Sensational'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said it was an extremely disappointing night after the Millers were knocked out of the Northern semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy by Fleetwood Town last night.

Speaking after the two-one loss the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, 'It is disappointing because we've gone out but I was more down on Saturday because the performance was poor but I thought tonight's performance, especially in the second half, showed that we are a country mile in front of Fleetwood. We can't allow for two goalkeeping errors and we can't allow for the misses at the other end.

'How can you use a word like sensational when you've just lost a football match? But we have been sensational and we have torn them apart. But as a club in a cup tie you'd rather just scrape a win like we did at Hartlepool.

'I think our fans will go away rightly disappointed tonight because we've gone out of two cups in four or five days but the fans who were here tonight saw a different performance to what they did against Rochdale. I can't look at any player and say they haven't given Rotherham United a proper shift tonight.

'People will look at this result and think 'ugh' but they don't know the circumstances behind it. We should have been in front in the first half then Adam (Collin) makes a huge error, then we get ourselves back in the game with some good play and we'd missed a couple of chances before that. We then laid siege to the goal and the guy had a great strike for the second goal but my goalkeeper should save that. Then we miss a host of chances to equalise and I thought if we'd equalised then we could have gone on and won the game. But, unfortunately, people, especially in cup ties, only look at the result.

'This is a very good Fleetwood side but we've come here tonight and showed that there is a gulf in class from what we've got to what they've got but I wish Graham (Alexander) and his team every success and we hope they get to Wembley.'
