RUFC - Evans 'We Weren't At Our Best'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said that his team weren't at their best today after they suffered their first league defeat since the end of October.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-nil defeat to Port Vale, the Millers Boss said, 'We didn't start well and we looked like a team who weren't organised. Then we conceded an early goal from some sloppy play and then we missed a penalty. I've just looked at the DVD of their second goal and its two yards off-side. But that`s the way things go.

'Claude gets sent off but we are still in the game at ten verses eleven and I think we were counterattacking better with then than we were with eleven but the second goal kills the game.

'We weren't at our best. We lost Lee Frecklington to illness and our captain Craig Morgan played when he perhaps shouldn't have done and there were three or four of them out there including Alex Revell who have played through illness. But I don`t want to come out and make excuses. Port Vale played quite well and we wish them every success.

'We've got to pick ourselves up and go again against Coventry on New Years Day. There will be changes because I've got players in the dressing room now who are shaking with cold and who are ill and we have to try and get them right for New Years Day.`
