RUFC - Millers To Appeal Sending Off

Rotherham United had defender Claude Davis sent-off eight minutes into the second half against Port Vale this afternoon and Millers Manager Steve Evans wasn`t at all sure that should have been the case.

After former Miller Tom Pope went down under a challenge from the Millers Jamaican defender, Davis then tried to get the ball from under the strikers body which the referee interpreted as a kick and showed a red card.

'I've just looked at the sending off on the DVD and Claude touches the ball from underneath Pope and has not touched the player,` Evans told Radio Sheffield. 'The way Pope rolled around as though he had been smashed was disgraceful. To get a fellow professional sent off like that is very poor and we shall be appealing the decision.`

The Millers missed a penalty in the first half which would have brought them back to one-one when Richard Duffy brought James Tavernier down in the box.

'If that wasn`t a clear goal scoring opportunity I don`t know what was so how the Vale lad wasn`t sent off is the biggest mystery today.`
