RUFC - Evans 'We Should Have Had It Wrapped Up'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was bitterly disappointed after seeing his side not only lose a one-nil lead but also lose their captain to a red card with twenty minutes of the match to go.

Speaking after the three-one loss at home to Coventry City, the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, 'We could have had the game wrapped up by half-time but we didn't put the chances away. We have five or six good chances and we started on the front foot and cut them open time after time. We should have had the game sewn up but they defended and their goalkeeper did alright too.

'We didn't play with any purpose in the second half. Everything we'd done in the first half we never repeated in the second half. We played very well in the first half but we didn't play well in the second half yet we had the chance to get a point and we missed the penalty which is two in two games.'

Asked if having two centre-halves suspended (Claude Davis and Craig Morgan) would change who he would be looking to bring in, Steve said, 'We were already fetching one in so it won't change anything.'

Rotherham played as well as I've seen them play at home this season in the first half today but it was like a different side that came out to start the second half - and there seems to be no reason why. OK, maybe Coventry had had a rollicking at half-time and perhaps came out a bit stronger for the second period but we just seemed to roll over and die. Their 'keeper was outstanding, in my opinion, and kept them in the game in the first forty-five minutes, the only thing he really had to save in the second half was the penalty which, to be honest, wasn't a great effort.
