A few happenings to Rotherham United on this day in the past
19th March 2013
On this day last season the Millers Reserves entertained Oldham Reserves at Roundwood. Connor Bell opened the scoring for the Millers but Connor Hughes equalised for Oldham and before half-time Hughes made it two-one to the visitors. Bell got his second for the Millers just after the hour mark and in the final minute of the match James Cadmen gave the Millers a three-two win.
19th March 2012
On this day in 2012 the Millers and Andy Scott parted company after less than twelve months in charge. When he left the Millers they had just lost two-one at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford and were in eleventh place in League Two, eight points from the play-off positions.
Chairman Tony Stewart said, 'An accumulation of events has led us here with the decision based on the lack of performances. After a good start the great expectations faded before Christmas and the work ethic in training was not seen on the pitch. We want to make it clear that the Board want to get out of this league in to League One and then to the Championship.'
19th March 2011
It was on this day that then Manager Ronnie Moore came out with his famous 'if I'd had a gun I'd have shot them' regarding the five-nil defeat in front of Sky TV at Chesterfield. Three days later Ronnie was no Mo(o)re in charge of the Millers.
Meanwhile, Liam Henderson on loan from Watford, was happy to extend his loan until the end of the season.
19th March 2009
Five years ago the Millers announced that they had decided not to extend the loan deal Crystal Palace striker Simon Thomas. He appeared twice for the Millers in league games in his month's loan - once against Gillingham for the suspended Drewe Broughton and once against Wycombe although he also played in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy game against Scunthorpe.
19th Match 2008
It was a bad time for the Millers after we were told that, for the second time in eighteen months, we were in administration.
The Official Site said With hundreds of thousands of pounds owed to the Inland Revenue as a result of low attendances and other incomes not as high as were hoped, having failed to be granted a ten day extension on their intent to go into administration at a Leeds Court yesterday, only being granted a further twenty-four hours to the two weeks already given, the club had no other option but to enter administration once again.
19th March 2007
Caretaker Boss Mark Robins said, on this day seven years ago, that he was 'proud' of the team after Saturday's one-nil win at Brentford. He picked a very young Millers side including Jamie Yates at just seventeen. Stephen Brogan and Liam King are both eighteen and Mark Newsham, who came on as a substitute, is twenty next weekend. Nineteen year old Rossi Jarvis, on loan from Norwich, was also in the starting line-up.
19th Match 2005
Nine years ago a fifty-third goal from QPR striker Martin Rowlands was enough to beat the Millers one-nil at Millmoor
Teams that day
Subs not used - Montgomery, Vernazza
Subs not used - Rossi, Thorpe
19th March 1994
The Millers entertained Stockport County at Millmoor in a game which saw three goals - Shaun Goater scored for the Millers but Jim Gannon and Kevin Francis scored two for County to give them the win.
19th Match 1993
A Friday night game at the Deva Stadium saw goals from Imre Varadi and Chris Wilder give the Millers a two-one victory.
19th Match 1991
An unforgettable Tuesday night game for the Millers on this day twenty-three years ago when they visited Leeds Road standing for ninety minutes in pouring rain in uncovered terracing watching a four-nil win to Huddersfield Town (I remember it well! At one time the rain was so heavy you couldn't see the other end of the pitch! Mind you, some might say that was for the best!)
19th March 1968
A Brian Tiler goal was the only goal of the game in a one-nil win at Millmoor against Plymouth Argyle in this Division Two game in front of 16,350 fans.
19th March 1963
A better time on this day in 1963 at Gigg Lane on a Tuesday night. Two goals each for Albert Bennett and Ken Houghton and one from John McCole gave the Millers a five-nil win.
19th March 1960
Just under nine thousand people saw the Millers beat Plymouth Argyle at Millmoor with a goal from Roy Lambert.
19th Match 1932
Rotherham United travelled to take on Hartlepool on this day eighty-two years ago. The Millers won four-one with goals from Reg Freeman, Walter Spicer and Albert Parkin (two).
19th March 1927
Again the Millers travelled to Hartlepool on this day in 1927 - this time it was a three-one loss for Rotherham with Albert Parkin scoring one of his two goals for Rotherham that season.
