RUFC - Gaffer 'Thomas Was Excellent'

RUFC - Gaffer 'Thomas Was Excellent'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans told Radio Sheffield that he thought striker Wes Thomas was excellent in today`s win over Swindon Town.

Since joining from Bournemouth in January the twenty-seven year old has been in and out of the team but he added two goals this afternoon to take his goals for the Millers to five for the season which could leave him in good stead to play a part in the play-off games.

'I thought he was excellent today,` the Gaffer said.

Asked why he took Wes off at half-time Steve said, 'I thought there were one or two things being said on the pitch and they were trying to antagonise him so we took him off as a precaution.

'But I thought Rob Milsom was excellent as well and the plan was always to play him for sixty-five or seventy minutes then introduce Michael O`Connor and put James Tavernier further forward. I don`t think Richard Brindley had a problem all afternoon and I don`t think there was any better player on the pitch than Claude Davis.`

The Gaffer is right, Claude Davis had a great afternoon - but he often does doesn't he. I also thought he did right to take Wes Thomas off - before he did or said something that got him booked/sent-off. He was being pushed and pulled and you could tell their players couldn't wait to have a skirmish with him - it's a pity that he's got this sort of reputation (though it's not always a bad thing to have is it) because I truly think if he'd been on the pitch another twenty-five or thirty minutes we'd have broke Swindon down more and got more goals.
