'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - We Have Not Bought Our Way Up The League

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has rejected claims that the Millers have 'bought' their way to firstly promotion from League Two last season and the League One Play-Off Finals this season.

Since the Millers moved to the New York Stadium there have been various reports doing the rounds that Chairman Tony Stewart has 'thrown money' at the club and 'bought' the success that Steve Evans and his team have had over the last two seasons.

Speaking to Sky Sports the Millers Boss said, 'It's not about money here. There have been some giants in League One and we are paying a fraction of what they have paid.

'In that dressing room, we have bought one player and that's Lee Frecklington. The rest have been on free transfers and the rest of the clubs had the ability to go and sign them.

'People wrote us off at the beginning of the season but if people look at the team that started against Preston in the play-off semi's they will see that the bulk of them were here last season.'

As Millers fans I think we know that Tony Stewart has 'thrown' money at the club - you've only got to look at the New York Stadium to see that. And this season we know that he's told the Gaffer to go out and buy, within reason, who he wants. But, as Steve Evans says, we have spent very little on getting players in here, although I don't know what sort of wages they are on, and it got me rather annoyed last season and this when pre-match interviews with opposing Managers always mentioned 'of course they've spent a lot of money'. But you know what, I've come to the conclusion that they are just jealous of the Millers - and let's hope they are even more jealous after Sunday.
