'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'No Guarantee Of Starting Place'

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans says that he is confident that latest signing Scott Loach can improve the squad.

Speaking to Rob Staton of Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said, 'Scott comes in to compete for the number one shirt alongside last season's hero Adam Collin.

'He's the right age with a good pedigree and we're pleased to get him. Our goalkeeping coach Andy Dibble has watched Scott several times and we've picked the brains of his past managers who played him in the Championship and everyone spoke very highly of him.

'We've been working on this deal for seven or eight weeks now with the view that if we got to the Championship then he would join us so we are pleased to get it over the line.'

The Gaffer is right when he talks about Adam Collin being the hero with his saves in the penalty shoot-out at Wembley and he goes on to say, 'We've got a top class goalkeeper in Adam and we saw something in him before he joined us that we liked. He worked incredibly hard to get the number one shirt and, along with Alex Revell, they became the heroes at Wembley. But, as quickly as football acclaims you it also provides you with competition and Adam knew we were in the market to sign a top class 'keeper and that it was likely to be Scott Loach. So he now knows the level of competition we've now given him.

'As a management team we will prepare them properly to get the opportunity to get the starting shirt but we don't guarantee anything. And may the best man get the shirt on the 9th August.'
