'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Reserves victorious v Hartlepool.

HARTLEPOOL UNITED 0 ROTHERHAM UNITED 4

The Deveraux Stadium, the home of Billingham was the venue for this afternoon's reserve game between Hartlepool United and Rotherham United.

Hartlepool had started their Pontin's league central division season in style with 4 straight wins and stood in second place scoring 14 and conceding just 2.
Whilst Rotherham had won 3 and lost 1 of their 4 games so far.

Pool's manager, the former Norwich star Ian Butterworth admitted after the game that there were defensive problems in the first half, but the teams still went in goalless.

However the second half went all Rotherham's way, and in particular Ryan Taylor's way after he completed a 15 minute hat-trick, with his first goals of the season for the reserves.

The first came from close range and just 60 seconds later he nipped inbetween defender Mark Tinkler and Keeper Dimitrios Rizos to fire into an empty net.

His hat-trick goal followed a one on one with Rizos who he rounded to hit home.

Marc Newsham completed the scoring with his 4th reserve team goal of the season after he lobbed the keeper following a long through ball.

Butterworth said 'It was diabolical, The defending in the second half was awful'.
'We gave them 3 goals and you cant win Football games like that'.

This victory put The Millers level on 12 points with Hartlepool who have the better goal difference.
