FA Youth cup Stockport v Rotherham

FA YOUTH CUP 1ST ROUND
STOCKPORT COUNTY 5 ROTHERHAM UNITED 3

270 fans witnessed a thrilling game at Stockport on Tuesday night as the home team were victorious over Rotherham United youth, who were unbeaten this season.

Stockport put out a very strong team, and indeed 6 of the players had senior experiance.

The home side had the ball in the net in the first minute, but Chris Coward's effort from Dan Ellis's shot was ruled to be offside.

Rotherham captain Jamie Yates then saw a volley go just wide.

However County hit back and took the lead when Ryan Crowther's cross found Gianluca Havern who slotted home for the Young Hatters.

Stockport applied all the pressure and they saw it rewarded as a 25 yard strike from Ellis doubled the score.

Worse was to come for the Millers when an inswinging corner from Tommy Rowe caught out everybody, including Rotherham Keeper Mark Oxley and flew into the goal for a 3-0 scoreline.

7 minutes from the interval and Rotherham got a glimmer of hope, as a free-kick outside the area dropped to Jamie Yates on the edge of the box and a strong hit reduced the arrears.

The second half was just 3 minutes old when the home side re-established their 3 goal lead.
Tansey's corner found the head of Chris Coward, who made no mistake to make it 4-1.

Jamie Yates fought relentlessly for the struggling Millers however and saw 2 efforts from distance go just wide.

On 71 minutes Yates was again in the thick of it, and a turn and shot from 20 yard flew off the underside of the bar.

Jamie Green gave the Millers a fighting chance with an angled drive on 76 minutes to make it 4-2.

10 minutes later though the Hatters went into a surely unassailable lead as Havern crossed and Coward got his second goal witha well taken volley.
5-2 to Stockport, but still the scoring wasn't finished.

Deep into stoppage time Ryan Greene scored with his head to give the scoreline a more favourable look for the Millers.
