'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Millers boss Watford link

ROTHERHAM United manager Alan Knill could have players from Watford in his sights as possible transfer targets come the January transfer window, reports the Sheffield Star.

That could be in the pipeline as Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd threw out an invitation to Millers boss Alan Knill to spend a day with the Premiership club.

The managers met briefly in April 2005 after a game between the two sides and they met again recently as Boothroyd made contact with Knill and visited the Millers boss at Millmoor for a chat.

Boothroyd offered an invitation to Knill to visit Vicarage Road to spend a day at the club, watch the Premiership stars train and basically see how they run things, possibly even check on any potential signing.

Watford could be aiming to put players out on loan in January and look to smaller clubs to give Younger players Vital experience of League Football.

Knill's reputation as a manager and coach was enhanced last season when there were encouraging reports from Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock about how Rotherham brought the best out in loanee Stephen Quinn, who is now starring in the Blades first team, and also Striker Jonathan Forte, who found the net 4 times during his spell at Rotherham.

Boothroyd has watched closely Alan Knill's work at Millmoor in his first year in charge, and decided to make contact and see if there was common ground.

Will Hoskins is not on Watford's shopping list, but Lee Williamson,is the sort of midfielder who might well appeal to Boothroyd.

Knill has to make a decision on two of his loan players shortly, as Scott Wiseman and Dave Hibbert's,loan periods end on January 1, and has said that he wants to make signings if possible within the budget.
