RUFC - Millers To Trim Back Budget

RUFC - Millers To Trim Back Budget

Rotherham United's Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas says that if the Millers get relegated then the budget will have to be trimmed back which includes the wage bill.

'You can't say to a player here's a three year deal on £5,000 a week irrespective of where we are,' he told The Rotherham Advertiser.

'You have to say what will happen if relegated or promoted and that goes for every senior player in the Football League. And in our case we apply a reduction and our first team squad members are all on contracts that have divisional status adjustments which in the event of a promotion a pay rise is built in and in the event of relegation there's a reduction.

'We have always tried to run the club where we have one eye on the financial implications of promotion, relegation or reasoning in the division. We run Rotherham United within the financial parameters that our resources allow, we always have done. When you are in the Championship there is a huge gulf between the amount of revenue a club can get from central distributions compared to League One.

'Tony Stewart and his directors who are with his company, ASD Lighting, run a successful business prudently and sensibly and have brought those principles to this football club. There will be times when one or two of them might have argued that Tony should have been less generous and positive but that's just his nature. I'm glad it is because there have been times when, if we'd not had that, we wouldn't have achieved the success we have.'
