Sharps - 'Not Good Enough`

Rotherham United`s captain Ian Sharps has told the Advertiser that the team know that the performance at The Den was not good enough.

'We can`t blame anyone but ourselves for how things are going,` he said, 'it`s not that long ago we were taking the praise for how we were playing but we have to be strong enough to take the criticism as well. Every single player in the team knows they are under performing and we must step it up for the next game.`

Twenty-six years old Sharps hinted that it was time for the Millers to play a little more cautiously as they now have one of the worst defensive records in the League.
'We have conceded sloppy goals. We are an attacking team and in some games we have got to the situation where we think we can score more goals than our opponents and you can`t do that in this division. We have to stop the other team playing before we do anything else. Defending is not just about the back four and the goalkeeper; it is about the whole team. We defend together, we attack together.`

He said of the Millwall game, 'We started well and were actually looking the better team but after their first goal the confidence went. Conceding three goals in the first half is unacceptable.

'I felt sorry for the supporters who went down there. We didn`t mean to play like that. We tried to give it our all but some days it`s not enough.`

Surely as captain and practically the oldest player on the pitch, it is up to him to get the fire back in the team and show the youngsters what we need from Rotherham United
