Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he enjoyed 'ninety-three minutes' of last evenings Checkatrade Trophy game against Manchester City U21's.

David Ball had put the hosts into the lead but a goal in the last minute of time added on Ben Garre equalised sending the game into the new ABBA penalties.

Speaking after the Millers lost on penalties, Warney said, 'To lose on penalties with the new format was a bit confusing.

'For a couple of days we'd worked on how to press and that it would be a high energy game and how to stop them from playing out and I thought we were pretty successful at that. But the last five minutes they started slashing at things when we should have just seen the game out.

'We must have had twenty attempts on goal to their two or three so to not win the game after such dominance was a bit frustrating. But sometimes you don't get what you deserve.'

Asked what he thought of the Manchester City U21's, Warney said, 'They are a very talented bunch. They are very athletic, can handle the ball in tight areas and they have some impressive players. There goalkeeper was their stand out player for me, he was amazing.'

Saying the game had got minutes on the pitch to some players who hadn't previously played much this season, Warney carried on, 'It was a chance for some of the lads to try and get into the first team and there were some good performances out there.

'Bally (David Ball) had some good touches and got his goal. I thought the midfield were excellent. Vaulks, Forde and Taylor worked really hard in a game that was physically demanding for them. I think these four players have been unlucky not to be in other games. But it's not for me to put them back in it's for them to force their way back in.'

Josh Kayode made his professional debut for the Millers last night coming off the bench with the Millers Boss saying, 'He's bright and a positive kid and I think he's got a good chance in the game. Whenever I can I'll try and give the young ones a chance.'
