RUFC - Defender In For Weekend?

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne has said again that he would willingly let any player leave who didn't want to play, or compete, for the club.

'It's not about me giving them an opportunity, it's about them making themselves an opportunity,' the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield.

'I made ten changes on Tuesday night and put the gauntlet down saying if you're the best player on the pitch then you've got a good chance of playing at the weekend.

'Both Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jerry Yates are competing to get the lads out who are in front of them. If they don't want that fight and they want to go and play their football elsewhere then my door is always open.

'If they look me in the eye and say they don't want to be here then I'll let them go.'

Warney did say he was 'pretty close' to bringing in another defender and hoped it might be done for this weekend.

He was also asked about forward George Hirst who has been linked with a move to Rotherham and was at the game on Tuesday night.

'I didn't invite him to come and watch the game,' Warney said, 'and it could just be that he wanted to come and watch a local game.

'I don't know about his contract and I respect Sheffield Wednesday whose player he is. But if the opportunity came to sign him I don't believe there would be a Manager around who wouldn't want to take him.

'Am I confident of getting him? We are an excellent club in Yorkshire and it would be a privilege for him to come and play for us.'
