RUFC - Warney Says Millers Are 'Exciting To Watch'

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says he is really proud of his lads after the five-one home win against Oldham this afternoon.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after seeing his side score five goals at home for the third time this season, Warney said, 'I knew it was a banana skin before we started because Oldham have been excellent in their last three games.

'I knew it was going to be tough so was pleased when we went one-nil up but to concede off a corner was hugely disappointing.

'But we told the lads to just keep playing with confidence and eventually you'll get a breakthrough and we did. I thought we were phenomenal for the last twenty minutes. I'm really proud of the lads.

'We changed the wingers over in the second half. We made changes and the substitutions we made contributed to three assists and two goals so it means we have got fire power on the bench.

'We get stronger as the game goes and especially when we're shooting towards the kop who are a great help sucking the ball in.

'We did have some chances in the first half. I especially liked it when Woody (Richard Wood) took it off Richie Towell, who is probably the best finisher at the club, but Woody decided he was going to hit it from twenty yards! It was hugely frustrating. I think we played well first half but not as well as we have been doing. It wasn't as fluent but that's due to Oldham who played really well. We could possibly have gone in at half-time in the lead but I was happy to go in drawing.'

Warney went on to talk about Joe Newell who came off the bench today saying, 'He's one of the unluckiest men here. He's been our best trainer again all week and he's the best all round footballer. He was like Diego Maradona when he dribbled down the middle for Fordey's goal (Anthony Forde). He's done excellent.

'And I thought Darren Potter was outstanding for us again and controlled the play while Richie Towell and Lee Frecklington tried to get in on things but it didn't really fall for them today. And I thought Jerry (Yates) came on and did well too, it's just unfortunate that he's got some colossus in front of him at the moment. When I can I will try and put Jerry on when I can.

'I think we've got some good players here and we are exciting to watch so hopefully it will be an impressive season.'
