RUFC - Warney Not Bothered How Rodak Stops Ball

Rotherham United goalkeeper Morek Rodak has kept three clean sheets since taking over in goal in September (four if you count the one he kept for his parent club Fulham in the EFL Cup in August).

But there have been murmurings in the stands in the fact that he does tend to climb high and punch the ball away when he maybe could be catching it.

When Radio Sheffield asked Millers Manager Paul Warne what his preferences were for his 'keeper to deal with crosses coming in, he replied, 'My preference is that it doesn't go in the net.

'I don't care if he clears it with his earlobe, his heel, his bum, it makes no difference to me. I just don't want the ball to go in the net.

'I like my goalkeepers to be a bit maverick on crosses and I like them to come for things. And I do like goalkeepers who help the back four out. After Saturday's game both Michael Ihiekwe and Woody (Richard Wood) were congratulating Rodak on his performance saying he took the pressure off.

'As an attacker I know that any nick the 'keeper gets on the ball it takes it off and in that respect I was really pleased he just kept coming.

'As to the murmurings well he's a twenty year old kid and the fact that he kept coming just shows what character he's got. He believes in what he's doing and he's a confident lad.

'Don't get me wrong I'd rather he caught it and sat on it for ten minutes but he has to do what he sees right. If he did come to catch it, dropped it and they score then I wouldn't criticise him but I'd be hugely disappointed. So, as I said, if it doesn't go in he can do what he likes.'
